I think the theme is equality/fairness because during the book there was a protest and they were fighting for equality/fairness because the whole entire place was segregated. Then there was people shouting "you are not right equality is not yours". Also when they were protesting it was only black people when they were protesting in the everybody was holding hands and fighting for the same reason and then I know that black people back then it was unfair and it was segregated. In conclusion the message in this book makes me think black people must've suffered a lot and That makes your sad inside for them.

I think the theme is equality because Charlotte and her friend saw shoes at the shop. When Charlotte's friend got home her mom said if those shoes do not fit we will goto the store. The next day they needed to go to the store. But that day they could not put the shoes on they traced there feet. Charlotte's friend was not happy about that on Monday Chatlotte had a idea so what they did was they did cores for a nickel and a pair of shoes in a month or two a lot of people came to their 'store' to buy shoes.
I think the message do not judge people by there skin color.
